Footy Fever Disco

When my daughter heard that this was the theme for the upcoming school disco she was most disappointed. She spent the last disco twirling in a pretty skirt and just couldn't see it being any fun in "boring footy clothes". So I promised to make her a skirt. Not just any skirt, one which would twirl, but still be in keeping with the theme. Unfortunately the Dockers lost on Friday night which ended their finals campaign, but she will still be twirling away in their colours!

It worked out rather well considering it was trial and error. I had planned on using my gathering foot for the first time, but couldn't work out how to keep both lots of fabric straight and feeding evenly, so I gave gathering on the overlocker a try - and loved it! This was all done in an afternoon - apart from the waistband and topstitching which were done late last night. I might even try another sometime soon in much nicer fabric.
And I just need to add - this is the try on twirl. I'm going to tighten the elastic a little, although she does always choose to wear her clothes this low. I now need to decorate a suitable top to go with it!

OK, while I've been very slack about posting I am still wandering around blogland and gaining inspiration! There is a gorgeous giveaway on of a $100 voucher to Dollcake - the most floaty, feminine and romantic clothes for 0-8yo girls. Thanks to Amanda Keeys Photography for this one.

Gone So Long!

Once again I've been absent, just too many things to do and not enough motivation to do them.  I've made a few small things and added more than just a little fabric to the stash.  At the moment I'm working on a very basic dress from one of the Emma Hardy books.  I had enlarged it slightly and lengthened it quite a bit for K, but the extra length still isn't enough so I'm planning on sewing a band on the bottom in contrasting fabric. K would also like me to make her a "taggie", it might stop her stealing her little brothers and I do have plenty of fabric and ribbon!

Long Time No Post

I have been meaning to put up pictures of all the things I made and gave as christmas presents, time just doesn't seem to be on my side. This year hasn't started well for our family with my husband having some serious health issues. But we are dealing with them and hoping that in a few months we can look back on it and be glad it is done with.

On a positive note, having Mum here to help with the kids gave me the nudge I needed to try out my overlocker. I'm sure it will be getting lots of use, but for now, it is stashed in the cupboard waiting for me to be able to relax and create.
